Song for Shalom

Hope for a Village
Shalom Children's Center
Twifo-Hemang, Ghana

One voice from Ghana made its way to Texas where we were able to hear about Christiana Owusu's dream to build a loving place for the children in her village to learn. With support from a chorus of new friends, Christiana's dream came true as a well was built and an early education classroom was finally available to the youngest and most vulnerable children. The school has grown to include primary and jr high students and continues to be known as a loving place for children in Hemang. With your support, we can help provide a much needed meal, a safe learning space, uniforms, quality teachers and most of all hope to a little known area of Ghana.

Maintaining Infrastructure

Buildings, buses and wells are some of the important areas that need continued maintenance.
  • Supporting Christiana in Ghana - We would love for our proprietor to have the support she needs to live in Ghana and care for the school, the teachers and especially the children. In December Christiana was able to move home after 26 years in the US!
  • A Playground - the image of children only having the dirt to play in hasn't left me since my last visit. Every child deserves to play and we would love for the children to have a playground where "kids can be kids". A playground was built in memory of Katherine Belew Gorham.
  • A Fence - Safety has become a concern in Ghana and the school is adjacent to a highway. We would love to have a fence and gate to protect our students. We have started this project and will continue whenever funds are available.
  • A Computer Lab - Currently our students can only learn the ideas about computers. We hope to equip them with some computers and a projector so many students can learn at once! Our lab was started in 2019. We will always be working to keep it up-to-date
